Gallery - Video Thumbnails

One of the biggest issues I have with Gallery is the way to add videos.

Speaking from a web customer perspective, using Gallery to display videos from youtube or vimeo, requires they first must create a JPG thumbnail in order to add/link the video to the Gallery.

This results in a poor user experience for customers with little web or photoshop experience. To have to do a screen shot of the video, crop it in photoshop, then save as JPG in order to add the video to Gallery is not practical.

The whole idea here is to create a process that remains "drag and drop" - especially for videos as they become more popular.

There are other Joomla-based video gallery components that do this, why not yours? I like the idea of balbooa-based add-on components (forms, gallery) to work seamlessly with gridbox - it makes it easy to sell your "system" to customers as a one-stop shop.

However, not for video gallery management.

For example, how difficult would it be to add one extra "upload" icon (now have desktop, folder) but the new one allows us to paste a url to the youtube thumbnail?

i.e. img.youtube.com/video id/image.jpg

PLEASE make this a priority so the gallery can truly be the "only" image/video manager needed.
I ask others who read this post to support this request.

Thank you

I agree.

I have 40 videos to place on my site to present products and it is true that doing each time a thumbnail for it is a bit of a chore.

Maybe it will be implemented in the future.

Hello,

You need to add "test" for video thumbnail (at the right panel).

And to add custom CSS code:
.test:before {
    color: #000;
    content: '\f3a8';
    font: normal normal normal 48px/1 'Material-Design-Iconic-Font';
    left: 50%;
    position: absolute;
    top: 50%;
    transform: translate(-50%);
    -webkit-transform: translate(-50%);
    z-index: 1;
}

Hi,

A video player icon was added to the thumbnail, but it is still the thumbnail from the picture and not from the video link.

Thank you for the help anyway.

Yes I did of course it's just that you get the thumbnail of the image and not of the video.

Hmmm..

That is not entirely correct.

Because your extension does not have the option to auto create a thumbnail of the video during iport, I was forced to use another extension that does. And that extension manages both photos and videos as galleries - so I believe this can be accomplished and is unfortunate that you don't look into this capability considering the increasing popularity of videos on websites :(

FYI - the extension I now had to use is DJ-MediaTools

Hello, there!

I'm sorry, but I want to inform, the Gallery does not receive this option in the future, by simple reason - uploading your own thumbs for videos is much flexible. As an example - YouTube. All professional video bloggers upload own thumbs because they are much effective than YouTube autogenerated thumbs.

Gallery provides you full control over the thumbnails for video - the thumbnail will be like you want B)

I understand your perspective, but offer an alternate perspective...

Custom thumbnails can be added in youtube editor - where advanced users know how to manage that customization.

However, not all our clients are professionals and just need an easy way to add videos in one easy step.
This is why I am forced to use another solution.

I hope you reconsider your position.

Thanks!
