GDPR compliance regarding external resource loading like Google Fonts

Hello Balbooa Team,

right now my team and I are looking into how GDPR compliant the Gridbox-websites of our clients are.
So we've noticed some things that might be problematic going forward.

Mainly the loading of external recourses like Google Fonts. As far as I could see Gridbox loads default fonts like Roboto from Google Fonts. As Google collects statistical data from these kinds of CDN requests this method is not feasible for a fully GDPR compliant website.

Just to clarify, I do not talk about the fonts added in the font manager. In the example shown below I removed all fonts from my website to test if any font gets loaded. I can assume these are the fonts required for the Gridbox backend.

Nonetheless, I need a method to host 100% of all fonts used, myself.
Can you help me? And in a more general stance, how GDPR compliant is Gridbox and your related products (Gallery and Forms)?

Thank you in advance,
Maurice

Well, it seems like we have to dig a bit deeper to remove the font aka. the link-tag shown in my screenshot.
As I said, I removed all fonts from this website and it still loads Roboto.

I'll set up a test-website and will send you the link for it tomorrow.

Best regards
Maurice

Hello again,

as promised I have created a test site to demonstrate the observed behaviour of Gridbox loading Roboto by default without a way to stop it or hosting it locally.

test.freuwort.com/

The site-setup is pretty basic: default theme, removed all fonts from the font manager and replaced it with Arial.

Side question: is it expected behaviour that the header and footer do not use the base-font defined in the theme settings? In like: I go to theme > base font, set it to 'Arial' but the footer keeps its previous font until changed manually besides being set to 'inherit'.

Anyway, even though I removed all fonts, there is still one link-tag referring to Roboto loaded over Googles font CDN.

Let me know, if you need access to this sites backend or FTP for further analysis.

Best regards,
Maurice

In the footer settings for a paragraph, you have the Roboto font selected.
You need to select your custom font in all settings (themes, footer and all plugins)

I've just checked again and I already had it set to Arial.

And just to be 100% sure I didn't accidentally left a reference to Roboto in, I just removed the text all together, yet the link-tag persists:

Edit: and I have cleared my cache... just wanted to throw that in ;)

You deleted the text, but the settings remain the same,
you need to change the settings

Okay, now call me fairly impressed.

I seriously did not know you could set a different base font for the footer.
And you're absolutely right, after I set Arial as base font in the footers settings, the link got removed.

Thank you for your help!
+1 :D

Best Regards
Maurice

P.S.:
Perhaps this is something for the docs?

Edit: looking back at the link you've sent in your first message here I should have checked the footer earlier.
